The University of California, Merced, has embarked on a multiyear planning
initiative to create a new interdisciplinary school of management. The standalone
school will be called the Ernest & Julio Gallo School of Management after
the global wine business that, like the university, is located in California's San
Joaquin Valley. It will become UC Merced's first named school.
The school will have a mission that "relates broadly to management, decision
making, information, communication, and sustainability, and embraces the complexities
of real interactions between people, institutions, technologies, and the
natural world," according to Paul Maglio, the director of the Ernest & Julio Gallo
School of Management Planning Initiative.
