CONNECTING WITH RECRUITERS
A student from Purdue University in Wes Lafayette, Indiana, has launched InternX, an online platform that allows company talent recruiters to find and contact collegiate students qualified for job openings.
Students use InternX to describe their skills and abilities; recruiters search the site to find promising candidates and pay US$1 to access a student’s contact information. InternX is part of the Anvil, a student-managed community co-working space and business incubator in West Lafayette. “InternX focuses on recruiters knowing exactly what they want,” says company founder Nicholas Bachewicz, a senior in Purdue’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “When they search for talent, they select different criteria for their available position. Then, they can connect with students who are really eligible.” The InternX platform already includes students from five universities and recruiters from 35 companies and is seeking more partners. Emerald Publishing of the United Kingdom has converted its International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management to a fully open access (OA) journal, effective with the 2018 volume. It is the first Emerald subscription journal to become fully OA. The publication addresses the need for disseminating scholarly research to facilitate a better understanding of climate change. Dataiku, maker of the enterprise data science platform Dataiku Data Science Studio (DSS), has announced the Dataiku Academic Program—an initiative that provides free licensing, support, and learning resources to teachers, researchers, and students in the data science and business analytics fields. The platform allows users to leverage data science coding languages such as R, Python, and SQL, as well as machine learning algorithms and big data technologies such as Scala, Spark, and Hadoop. The recently released 4.0 version allows students with less-technical backgrounds to learn the data mining process and work on raw data without needing to code.
