Figshare, an online digital repository for academic researchers, has launched Figshare for Institutions, developed to allow academic institutions to store research data securely. Features include portals that showcase the research of an institution or a department, functions that allow users to group content into collections, flexible storage options, and revamped search and categorization functions. The objective, according to the company, is to encourage researchers to move away from storage on personal hard drives and other systems that might jeopardize the security and longevity of data. The platform was piloted at institutions in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and mainland Europe. Visit
