Who will be teaching at tomorrow's business schools? More and more instructors will be non-academic, non-tenure-track faculty. But it's critical that business schools treat these faculty as valuable members of their rosters. That was a key takeaway from the "Future of Faculty" session at AACSB’s Deans Conference in San Diego. Presenters Mark Higgins of Saint Louis University and Scott Showalter of North Carolina State University shared best practices for deploying professionally oriented faculty (POF), based on a recent Pathways Commission survey. These included inviting their participation in curriculum development and research, inviting their service on committees, and offering them multiyear contracts. The benefits to schools? Motivated non-tenure-track faculty who contribute wholeheartedly to the school's mission.
